The Louise Willgrass Tsunami Fund (LWTF) has been working tirelessly since its formation, to generate sufficient funds
to make an immediate and positive difference to the lives of the children in Phuket, following the destruction of the region by the tsunami.
Many schools were badly affected, and few usable buildings remained. Hundreds of Thai children were left orphaned, and many are still homeless and in need of both education and shelter today.
Indeed, five years on, the devastating effects of the tsunami continue to be felt by the community in Phuket.
There is still much work to do, but with your continued generosity and support, The Louise Willgrass Tsunami Fund
can meet its two main aims: firstly, to re-build and re-equip as many of the existing schools as possible, and secondly to provide
safe, welcoming and comfortable accommodation for the children in need of a home.
In the future, and as additional funds allow, it is hoped that a new school will be built,
on land that has already been set aside and purchased by the charity.
This will provide a fitting tribute not only to Louise's memory, but
to all the other British victims of the Asian disaster.
We are also actively working alongside the Thai authorities to identify and channel funds into other educational projects, and we are grateful for the continued support of the Director of Phuket Education, and for the
assistance of many other individuals and organisations in Phuket, who have provided advice where required.
The trustees would also like to thank
everyone who has made a donation to The Louise Willgrass Tsunami Fund to date, because an enormous amount has been
achieved since we formed back in 2005.
